T-Mobile chief to be named head of Deutsche Telekom

Deutsche Telekom is to name the boss of mobile arm T-Mobile as the new chief of the company following the resignation of Kai-Uwe Ricke.

Rene Obermann will be charged with bringing back the customers who left along with the personnel his predecessor axed from the struggling telecoms giant. Putting share value back into the enterprise will, however, top the agenda. The company last week reported disappointing results.

Obermann, 43, became a Deutsche Telekom board member in November 2002 and chairman of T-Mobile International the following month. He started his career with BMW before switching to the telecom field in the mid-Eighties.
